The best of the best: Data61’s top five robot creations

By December 26th, 2017

What you see is what you get – some of the coolest robots created by CSIRO‘s Data61. Enjoy!

The Autonomous Gator

This John Deere TE Gator has been retrofitted with robotic navigation capabilities by the team:

The Flying 3D mapping bot

Hovermap is a 3D lidar mapping payload suitable for small rotorcraft Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) developed by the CSIRO Autonomous Systems Lab. It utilises our proprietary Simultaneous Localisation and Mapping (SLAM) solution to generate 3D point clouds and therefore does not require GPS. This allows low-cost, high-resolution UAV-based lidar mapping both indoors and outdoors. It has a full spherical field-of-view with a range of 30m.

Yep – it’s a robot submarine. Read more here.

Zee, Gizmo, Magnapod and Weaver – the inspection hexapods

These three hexapods – six-legged robots – were created and built by Data61‘s robotics team to explore navigation, locomotion and inspection. Read more here.
